BVetMed, MVM, DECVIM (Cardiology)

Picture
Dr. Simon Dennis is originally from the United Kingdom and graduated with a degree in veterinary medicine in 2000 from the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in London, the largest and longest-established veterinary school in the English-speaking world. After graduation, he undertook an internship in small animal medicine and surgery and completed a master’s degree in electrocardiography at the University of Glasgow Veterinary School. For the next few years, he worked as small animal veterinarian, gaining valuable experience in all aspects of general veterinary practice. Dr. Dennis then returned to the Royal Veterinary College, completing a residency in veterinary cardiology and becoming a board-certified specialist. His specialist cardiology career has spanned two countries, clinical and academic positions. He had the privilege to work as an academic cardiologist at both the Royal Veterinary College and the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, and as a clinical cardiologist in the south of England, New York City and eastern Pennsylvania. He has a particular interest and expertise in echocardiography, the diagnosis and management of heart failure and congenital heart disease.

Dr. Dennis enjoys all aspects of being a veterinarian and cardiologist. He loves dogs and cats equally and has had many pets over the years, each one a rescue animal. He lives in West Chester with his wife, daughter, their cat Georgie, who has a perineal urethrostomy, and miniature schnauzer cross, Luna, who has the congenital heart defect, pulmonic stenosis.

Over the years, Dr. Dennis has been active in the education of veterinarians and veterinary cardiologists, veterinary research and publishing of studies. He has published in numerous international journals, written book chapters and was associate editor for the BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Cardiorespiratory Medicine. He has held the following positions: chair of the cardiology examination committee of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine; chief examiner of cardiology examinations for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in the UK; Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK; associate editor for the Journal of Small Animal Practice; associate editor for the Veterinary Medicine and Science; and a member of the external review board for the Journal of Veterinary Cardiology.

Veterinary Cardiologists diagnose and treat diseases of the cardiovascular system, which include the heart (valves, muscle, and electrical conduction system) and blood vessels . As a specialty referral service, the Cardiology Department at MLVS is committed to working with your veterinarian to communicate an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. Our board- certified veterinary cardiologist is equipped with advanced diagnostic imaging techniques to identify the heart disease suspected in your pet. The results from these cardiovascular tests are used to create a treatment plan specifically tailored to your pet’s condition.

  • Echocardiography (ultrasound of the heart) with 2D imaging, color flow Doppler, and spectral Doppler
